Copyright Infringement Halted
Stein-Mart, a discount retail store, has been sued by a Los Angeles based retailer, Kay Celine, for knowingly copying and using a known design original to the LA company. Kay Celine claims her clothes' designs have been pirated Stein-Mart after a failed business proposal. The case will now go to court. You can see the blog here.
Freeware Re-Branded and Sold?
3DMagix is an open source freeware, which means it is free to use by anyone. The problem is people have tried to re-brand the artwork and sell it as their own original artwork and software – which goes against the very idea of freeware to allow everyone free access to it. View the story here.
What Are the Solutions for Illegal Downloaders?
One recent solution for repeated offenders of illegal downloading has been to cut off internet access through their ISPs. This has turned into a big political issue and illegal downloading continues while a solution is still being debated. The argument about what may or may not work continues here in the blog.
Google Wins Cybersquatting Case
A man in India recently tried to block the domain name "googblog.com." The case was quickly resolved when WIPO, ruling on the case, ordered the domain name be turned over to Google. Google felt the site was too similar to its Google Blog website. You can see more of this story here.
