Incorporated in 1973 the British Phonographic Industry's (BPI) primary aim is fighting music piracy.

Since its founding, the BPI has represented the entire UK record industry. Its membership comprises hundreds of music companies including major record labels, associate members such as manufacturers and distributors, and hundreds of independent music companies representing literally thousands of labels.
