By Sandra Halteh AMMAN - Officials at the Industrial Property Protection Directorate (IPPD) at the Jordanian Ministry of Industry and Trade told ag-IP-news Agency that the month of July 2007 has witnessed an obvious rise in the primary and final trademark approvals compared to those of July 2006. The Directorate stated that the number of trademarks which received final approvals in July 2007 totaled 336 compared to 292 in July 2006; in the percentage reached up to 15%. So far, primary approvals have been granted to 547 trademarks in July 2007; whereas 501 applications were approved in July 2006. The number of trademark applications submitted to the Directorate in July 2007 totaled 882 compared to 667 in July 2006; in the percentage reached up to 33%. The Industrial Property Protection Directorate takes on the supervisory role of all matters related to the registration of trademarks, patents, industrial designs, models and integrated circuits as well as indexing them in an effort to provide the adequate protection in accordance with the current laws.
