BOCOG: Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad

With huge intellectual property issues expected to impact this year’s Olympics, BOCOG is at the vanguard of protecting IP rights during Beijing 2008.

Established on December 13, 2001, five months after Beijing won the right to host the 2008 Olympic Games, BOCOG aims to ensure high-level Olympic Games under the theme of "New Beijing, Great Olympics" and to leave a unique legacy for China and world sports.

One of the ways it’s achieving its goals is by protecting the intellectual property of the Olympic brand – including its symbols, motto and mascots. BOCOG is also overseeing the licensing of Olympic products, as well as the Olympics’ sponsorship program – protecting the rights, benefits and privileges of sponsoring corporations.

BOCOG’s more than 26 functional areas include a legal affairs department which is responsible for the management of the contracts and other legal affairs of BOCOG and the protection of the Olympic Games' intellectual property rights.
