BPSpecial Snapshot: Art Copyright Coalition

As intellectual property theft increases, so does copyright infringement of the art market and art licensing businesses. But due to cost restraints, infringers are untouchable and are not pursued even if their crimes are discovered. To fight this and other problems threatening the art world, art industry leaders have banded together to form the Art Copyright Coalition (ACC).

Knowing that battling counterfeiters is an expensive and difficult task for any single person or organization, the ACC offers an affordable and cost effective alternative: combining forces with reputable companies who face the same challenges. The ACC has now united disparate community members and taken action against infringers as a group, aiming to raise awareness of these issues and express the visual art community's concerns.

According to the ACC, "The Coalition has evolved into being the voice of the Visual Arts community in partnering with other industry leaders in worldwide efforts to combat counterfeiting, in confronting trade shows and retailers who tolerate piracy on their premises, and in lobbying on behalf of its members and the Visual Arts community at large on the Hill and with the U.S. Copyright Office. The ACC is committed to taking every action possible to protect art and creativity and to respond to its members' concerns."
