American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law

Founded August 21, 1878 the American Bar Association is a voluntary bar association of lawyers and its Intellectual Property Law section (ABA-IP) is the largest IP organization in the world, focusing specifically on Intellectual Property issues.

The ABA-IP has over 62 committees, each dealing with a special aspect of the law as it relates to intellectual property under the statutes, common law and the provisions of international treaties. The Committees have been organized into ten major divisions in order to deal most effectively with the extensive, highly specialized matters that command Section attention.

ABA-IP offers hundreds of publications on legal information pertaining to intellectual property and is a key recourse for professionals and non-professionals alike. It also boasts countless legislative and outreach initiatives including, most recently, the Patent Reform Act of 2007, passed by the House of Representatives.
