Now, products can be both traced and tested for authenticity using just one system – with an integrated packaging security product that combines SECUTAG® counterfeit-proof micro-color-code technology with bar codes, RFID or data-matrix traceability codes.

The SECUTAG system, developed by the German company 3S Simons Security Systems GmbH, has been protecting branded products against forgery through its anti-counterfeit micro color-code particles. Barcodes, RFID or data-matrix codes are proven technologies used by manufacturers to track and trace their products throughout the supply chain.

Now, the company has launched a new system solution that combines the anti-counterfeit advantages of SECUTAG with the logistic benefits of the different traceability codes. Both types of codes can be applied together to the same product, its primary or secondary packaging, and its label or seal. Plus, it’s a user-friendly system, with producers, suppliers and consumers alike able to trace and authenticate their products.

Here’s how it works:

·         Data-matrix codes, for example can be user-defined and contain information such as product code, EAN-code, producer initials, manufacturing date, batch number and serial number.

·         The product ID is scanned and its content checked and matched against the information stored in the company’s database. However, the product’s authenticity is not guaranteed even if the product data and the database information coincide (a notice that the product has already been verified means it is probably a counterfeit).

·         With the SECUTAG marking, the product’s authenticity can be double-checked immediately – and such identification is secure because each manufacturer has a unique color code that is even accepted as evidence by international courts.

The new SECUTAG system traces and authenticates products throughout the entire supply chain and is suitable for different markets, including the pharmaceutical and food packaging sectors. Furthermore, it can be integrated into any kind of production line easily and cost-efficiently.
