The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) is the organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide. Based in London, England, IFPI represents more than 1,450 record companies in 75 different countries. IFPI's mission is to promote the value of recorded music, safeguard the rights of record producers and expand the commercial uses of recorded music in all markets where its members operate.
To achieve its mission, IFPI has established policies that fight music piracy, promote industry-friendly copyright laws, and lobby for legal conditions believed to be in the interest of recording companies.
IFPI recognizes 48 affiliate groups, including the BPI (British Phonographic Industry), the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), the ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association), and the CAPIF (Argentine Chamber of Phonograms and Video grams Producers).
