World Intellectual Property Organization

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was established in 1967 to promote the protection of intellectual property throughout the world. Through cooperation among states and in collaboration with other international organizations, WIPO has succeeded at becoming one of the world's leading organizations for brand protection.

A specialized agency of the United Nations, WIPO is dedicated to developing a balanced and accessible international intellectual property (IP) system, which rewards creativity, stimulates innovation and contributes to economic development while safeguarding the public interest.

As defined in its 2006-2007 Program and Budget, WIPO plans to complete its vision by following five strategic goals, including: promoting an IP culture, integrating IP into national development policies and programs, developing international IP laws, delivering quality services in global IP protection systems, and increasing the efficiency of WIPO's management and support processes.
