The Society is a realization of an idea of leading intellectual property practitioner, Talal Abu Ghazaleh: to establish a specialized Arab professional body focused on organizing the profession of those working in the intellectual property field.
Established on February 23, 1987, the Arab Society for Intellectual Property's (ASIP) first official meeting included the election of the board of directors which consisted of 10 members representing seven countries - Kuwait, Egypt, Syria, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Iraq.
The Society’s main objective is to enhance and develop the protection of the intellectual property system through various awareness and education programs that explain the nature of IP and its effective role in the economy. ASIP also aims to organize the IP profession, increase its activities, professionally train the Arab staff in the field and upgrade IP's status in a way that will serve its members and the local and international community.
