Thomas J. Donohue is president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Since assuming his position in 1997, Donohue has built the Chamber into a lobbying and political force with expanded influence across the globe.
Donohue, a major player in election politics, established the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR), worked to make the Chamber a leader in knocking down trade barriers, and revitalized the National Chamber Foundation, the Chamber’s public policy think tank.
The U.S. Chamber, through its National Chamber Foundation, has also launched a broad initiative to effectively thwart the growing global threat of counterfeiting and piracy to the U.S. economy, the global business community, and consumers. Its 195-member Coalition Against Counterfeiting and Piracy works aggressively to implement a coordinated global strategy to increase awareness, educate business, lawmakers and consumers, and provide businesses with tools to protect their products and secure their supply chains.
Prior to his current post, Donohue served for 13 years as president and chief executive officer of the American Trucking Associations, the national organization of the trucking industry.
