Commissioner Raymond Kelly

Appointed by New York City Mayor Bloomberg, Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly was the first individual to hold the position for a second consecutive term. With 31 years in the New York City Police Department and vast experience supervising the Department's enforcement bureaus, Kelly has been outspoken on the effects of counterfeiting world wide. Over the years he has dedicated resources and efforts to raise awareness of counterfeiting dangers to society.

Kelly has been bold in his statements linking counterfeiting and terrorism. He has stated that counterfeiting is a profitable business without funding anything good. He has calculated that in New York City alone, 1 billion dollars in sales tax revenues have been lost due to counterfeiting and diverted goods.  In the last 2 years the NYPD has seized around $18 million worth of counterfeited goods on city streets and in warehouses.

Kelly firmly believes that counterfeiting poses a great threat to democracy. He whole heartedly asserts that sales from counterfeit CD's funded the 2004 terrorist attack in Madrid.

Kelly has served as Director of the International Police Monitors, Under Secretary for Enforcement at the United States Department of the Treasury, on the Interpol executive committee and as Commissioner of the U.S. Customs Service. He is believed to be a potential Republican candidate for 2009 New York City Mayor.
